Butte Trap Club carries one of the longest competitive legacies in Montana trapshooting. The club traces its roots to 1887 when the Butte Rod and Gun Club first hosted trap shoots in the area. Today, the club operates at its current location 10 miles south of Butte on Highway 10, continuing a tradition that's become central to southwestern Montana's shooting community.
One of the longest competitive traditions in Montana trapshooting, this medal has been awarded annually since 1898. Each winner's name is added with a gold bar—as of 2023, the medal displays 125 bars, with a new one added each year.
The club hosts regular practice sessions and competitive shoots throughout the year:
Spring/Summer Schedule: - Wednesday evenings: Practice at 6 pm - Saturday practice: September 20 through March 2026, starting at noon
Competition & Events: - Montana ATA sanctioned shoots - Western Zone program events - Annual State Tournament - Club shoots and league competitions
