Riis Outfitters operates guided duck hunts around Ennis, Bozeman, Big Sky, and West Yellowstone—prime country on Montana's main migratory route. Days start early, a few hours before shooting light, to catch the morning flights. Owner Dylan Riis uses panel blinds positioned on the edge of rivers and lakes, with hunters sitting on stools. Most hunts access blinds by boat, minimizing hiking.
"When the conditions are prime, it can be one of the best hunts of your life."
Migration season (October–November) brings multiple species through daily: mallards, pintails, widgeons, gadwall, teal, goldeneye, redheads, canvasbacks, spoonbills, scaup, and geese. Layout blinds are used occasionally depending on the hunting location.
| Service | Price | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Cast and Blast (2 people) | $680 | Float with shotgun or fly rod, decoy or jump shooting |
| Cast and Blast (1 person) | $500 | Solo option with boat access |
Insulated waterproof boots or waders are highly recommended. Most hunts use boats for access to blinds, so comfort in water gear matters. Layers work—mornings start cold and warm through the day.
Riis Outfitters combines hunting and fishing into cast-and-blast trips. Hunt decoys over water in the morning, switch to fly fishing, or do both in one day.
While waterfowl is the focus, Dylan Riis built Riis Outfitters as a full-service outfitting operation. The business offers guided fly fishing trips on the Madison, Yellowstone, Missouri, and Jefferson Rivers; spin fishing; ice fishing in heated shanties; and casting lessons for beginners.
Dylan grew up fishing around Belgrade, MT with a spin rod. At 12, he received a fly rod and never looked back. He's licensed as an outfitter (License #40529) and operates as a kid and pet-friendly guide service. Dylan lives in Ennis with his wife, two daughters, and dogs—they fish the Madison River year-round and know the local water intimately.
Based in Ennis, Montana, Riis Outfitters covers southwest Montana's best hunting and fishing country:
