Full description and what we offer
Elk River Outfitters operates buffalo hunts in the vast backcountry of eastern Montana—the same country where wild buffalo hunting took place in the 19th century and earlier. This isn't a pasture hunt. The herd contains over 2,000 free-roaming, wild buffalo ranging across roughly 250,000 acres of authentic hunting terrain.
Because the herd is truly free-roaming and wild, game taken here qualifies for Boone & Crockett scoring. Most other buffalo hunts do NOT qualify for this.
The difference matters. A real spot-and-stalk hunt in unpredictable terrain beats penned animals every time. Hunters report surprise at the actual difficulty—buffalo behave like any wild game: sometimes easy to stalk, sometimes genuinely challenging regardless of weather or season.

Hunters repeatedly report this as "the best hunt they've ever been on"—word that comes back season after season from returning clients.
