Full description and what we offer
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County runs the official 4-H Shooting Sports Training program for New York State. This isn't a commercial range or gun club—it's an educational organization that teaches youth firearm safety and marksmanship through the structured 4-H Youth Development framework.
The program focuses on teaching young people how to shoot safely while learning about conservation, natural resource management, and STEM principles. All instruction follows established 4-H protocols and educational standards.
The program offers instructor certification workshops for adults who want to teach 4-H youth. Training occurs at 4-H Camp Wabasso in Redwood, NY (43101 County Route 21).
Training Focus: - 4-H Youth Development principles - STEM program integration - Safety-first instruction methods - Natural resource education
The 2020 training was held June 13-14, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, but workshops are held periodically. Check with Robin Bartholomew for current scheduling.
The instructor training program accepts: - Adults currently involved in 4-H Shooting Sports programs - Interested individuals wanting to become certified 4-H instructors - Minimum enrollment of 5 participants required per discipline
