Albany County Pistol Club was founded in the 1950s by enthusiasts of the NRA Indoor National Match Program, specifically bullseye shooting. Today, the club continues this tradition while broadening its mission to emphasize firearms safety, education, and licensing courses for the Capital Region community.
The club operates a safe, secure 8-station indoor range providing members with a climate-controlled environment for year-round shooting practice. The covered firing line includes target stands, benches, and shooting tables to accommodate various shooting styles and skill levels. A range officer supervises all activities to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
Members can participate in: - Pistol shooting - primary focus including bullseye and competition formats - Rifle shooting - for qualified members - Target shooting - recreational and competitive - Marksmanship practice - skill development and training - Informal competitions - both member and guest participation
Albany County Pistol Club offers comprehensive safety and skills development:
- •NYS 18-Hour Pistol Permit Safety Class - State-mandated licensing course offered multiple times annually (2026 dates: January 10-11, February 7-8, April 11-12, June 6-7, August 1-2, October 3-4, December 5-6)
- •NRA Basic Pistol Course - Classroom and live-fire instruction
- •Private & Small Group Lessons - Personalized instruction for members
- •Guest Programs - Members may invite guests to experience the range
The club currently has limited membership openings. Interested individuals are encouraged to inquire about the waitlist or check back periodically for availability. Membership provides access to all facilities and programming.
Albany County Pistol Club actively supports the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association (NYSRPA), organizations instrumental in supporting firearms owners and Second Amendment rights in New York.
