Rochester Rifle Club started Sporterifle back in 1953—a .22 rifle program that's grown from a local experiment to over 40 teams across New York and northern Pennsylvania. That's the kind of club this is: grounded in real shooting culture, not corporate marketing.
The range sits at 2445 S Winton Rd and runs a straightforward setup: a 50-foot range with measurement stops at 10 meters and 50 feet, 12 positions with target carriers, and a meeting room. Members get 24/7 access with a key card—no staffed hours, no closed-off times. You show up when you want to shoot.
Membership costs $75/year for adults, $10 for juniors and spouses. New members attend a safety orientation, pay a $75 initiation fee (less the $10 application fee), and get their key card. Spouse and junior members need basic firearms training before using the range—most people satisfy this by attending orientation with the primary member.
| Membership Type | Cost |
|---|---|
| Application Fee | $10 |
| Associate Member | $75/year |
| Initiation | $75 |
| Add Spouse/Junior | $10 each |
If you sponsor a new member, you get a cash award. Just include the sponsor's keycard number on the application.
- •Community Pistol League (CPL) - Wednesday evenings, 4-7p
- •Sporterifle - Thursday evenings with weekly matches using NRA A-32 targets. Juniors (ages 12-19) compete in a separate league. RRC supplies equipment if you don't have a rifle, so people can try the sport before investing in gear.
- •Junior Programs - Sunday and Tuesday evenings covering basic rifle classes, sportrifle, and club activities. Equipment provided.
- •Prone Series - First Monday each month through May.
Rochester Rifle Club is affiliated with USA Shooting, NYSRPA, and SCOPE. They encourage (but don't require) membership in shooting advocacy organizations like CMP, GOA, FPC, and NRA.
"Plinkers, small game hunters, anyone interested in shooting, can fire in competition without the need for costly equipment or special skills." — From RRC's Sporterifle program description
The club actively accepts new members. During active season (roughly September-March), visitors can drop by during scheduled activities—the door's open and officers are there to answer questions. Mail your completed application with the $10 application fee to RRC, PO Box 20617, Rochester NY 14602-0617.
