Sheridan Transit Rod & Gun Club serves shooters across the Niagara Region—from beginners to experienced trap competitors. Located at 551 Ransom Road on Grand Island, STRGC makes it clear on their site: there's a place for everyone here, whether you've never shot before or you're chasing high scores.

• •Two Lighted Trap Fields equipped with automatic Pat Traps and voice calls. Each field handles:
• •Handicap shooting
• •Singles or doubles
• •Five shooting stations in an arc
• •Targets thrown 49–51 yards per ATA rules

• •League Shooting runs seasonal. Summer league starts in spring and runs through August. Fall/Winter league runs from fall into early winter. Shooters compete, track averages, and build scores that carry into special events.

• •Friday Night Events happen every week—$15 entry gets you 50 targets plus a $3 jackpot pool entry. A random number between 25–50 is drawn at night's end to determine the winner. Jackpot scores count toward league competition.

Air-conditioned in summer, heated in winter, with a full deck and pavilion for fresh-air shooting. Gun racks are plentiful—no need to walk back to your car between rounds.

A bar serves members and guests 21+. Kitchen operates during league hours for small donations. This is a functional shooting club that handles the basics well.

• •The Gun: 12-gauge shotgun, typically with a full or improved/modified choke, 30–34 inch barrel with vented rib. Single-barrel, double-barrel, pump, or semi-auto all work. Prices range from a few hundred into the thousands.

• •Ammunition: Target loads with #7-1/2 or #8 shot, 25-round boxes. STRGC stocks basic target loads on-site.

• •Safety Equipment:
• •Ear protection (disposable plugs available at the club)
• •Shooting glasses to protect from debris
• •Shooting pouch to carry shells (prevents distracting ground pickups)

Trap is simple mechanics, hard execution. You call "pull"—or any sound—and a 4.25-inch clay target launches at 42 mph, simulating a flushed game bird. One round = 25 birds, 5 from each of the five shooting stations. Hit it clean or clip it, it's "dead." Miss it, it's "lost."

The fields use voice-call systems that respond to your call—no hand releases, no waiting for a puller. Lead varies by station. Station 1 leads left, Station 2 leads right, Station 4 mirrors 2, and Station 5 mirrors 1. Follow through on every shot or you'll find your pattern falling behind the target.

ATA classifications run AAA (highest) down to D (lowest), so you compete within your skill level.

• •From Buffalo: Take 190N toward Niagara Falls to the Grand Island Bridge. Exit 18A, right on Staley Road, left on Stony Point Road, right on Ransom Road. Club on the left at 551, about 2 miles down.

• •From Amherst: Take 290W (Youngman Highway) to 190N, follow same route as above.

• •From Niagara Falls: Take 190S toward Buffalo to Grand Island Bridge. Exit 20A/West River Parkway, left on East River Road, about 5.5 miles to Ransom Road. Turn right; club is 0.5 mile down on the right.
