Wittenberg Sportsmen Club

Wittenberg Sportsmen's Club was chartered in 1930 and remains one of the Northeast's active outdoor organizations. Located in Ulster County just outside Woodstock, NY, the club sits on 165 acres of pristine wooded land, with an additional 838 acres of New York Department of Environmental Protection (NYDEP) protected land ensuring permanent conservation.

The club brings together serious outdoor enthusiasts who participate in:

• •Hunting and fishing on club grounds and surrounding property
• •Target shooting and marksmanship in all forms
• •Archery including indoor youth programs
• •Hiking and outdoor recreation
• •Social events including game dinners, holiday parties, and community gatherings

A newly constructed clubhouse completed in 2021 provides members with meeting space for winter gatherings, member and family events, and community events. The club also maintains a 20-acre stocked lake and pavilion area for seasonal activities.

Currently at membership cap of 200 with a waiting list. New applicants are dated as received. Turnover occurs annually due to members relocating or changing needs. Attending public events is the best way to connect with current members who can sponsor you.

The club operates as a not-for-profit corporation under New York State, with an elected board of directors governing operations. Primary objectives include:

• •Conservation and protection of fish and game in the region
• •Protection of Second Amendment rights
• •Promotion of sportsmanship through marksmanship proficiency
• •Safety instruction and advocacy
• •Land and forest conservation

The club operates entirely through volunteer efforts, with all members contributing to maintenance and upkeep.

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at the clubhouse (90 Montoma Lane, Woodstock). Summer meetings (Memorial Day through Labor Day) are held at the pavilion by the pond. New members must complete 10 hours of work during their first year as part of initiation—a practical way to integrate into the community.
