Captain Buster Gillis spent over 45 years running offshore charter fishing operations before switching focus to hunting and inshore fishing—the things he actually loves. Based in Shallotte with a mailing address at 1217 Riverview Drive SW, he's hunted and fished Brunswick County most of his life and now guides hunters and anglers who want to learn from someone who knows the area.

North Carolina Deer Hunting Hunts happen on private and public land with river hunts (6 hours) and stand hunts (1 hour before daybreak, 1 hour after sunset). Gun provided if needed. You'll need a North Carolina hunting license. - 1-3 people: $300 per trip - Max 3 hunters
North Carolina Wild Hog Hunting Year-round hog hunting on private and public land. Can combine with deer hunts during open seasons. Gun provided if needed. Only need a hunting license. - 6-hour trip from boat: $300 for 1-3 people - Max 3 hunters
North Carolina Duck Hunting Wood ducks, teal, mallard, and bufflehead on the Intracoastal Waterway and local rivers. Hunt from boat and banks. Gun provided if needed. You'll need a hunting license and duck stamp. - 6-hour morning hunt: $300 for 1-3 people - Max 3 hunters
North Carolina Turkey Hunting Spring turkey in April and May. Stalk, setup, and call hunts on private and public land. Portable blinds available for feeding area hunts. Requires hunting license, big game permit, and turkey tag. - 6-hour guided hunt: $300 for 1-3 people - Max 3 hunters
North Carolina Squirrel Hunting Brunswick County is loaded with grey and fox squirrel. Good starter for kids—teaches patience and quiet stalking. Good eating, too. Only need a hunting license. - 6-hour morning hunts from boat or stalking: $300 for 1-3 people - Max 3 hunters
Backwater Fishing (Cape Fear River to South Carolina Line) Targets red drum, flounder, speckled trout, and black drum using a 21" Blackhawk Wareagle with 150hp Yamaha motor. All rods, reels, bait, and tackle furnished. No license needed—Captain Buster carries a blanket license. - 6 hours: $300 for 1-3 people - Max 3 people
Freshwater Fishing (Local Lakes & Rivers) Fishes local lakes, rivers, and private ponds depending on conditions. Targets bass, bream, crappie, perch, pike, and catfish. All tackle, bait, and ice furnished. Captain will pick you up at a designated spot so your family keeps the car. You'll need a North Carolina fishing license. - 6 hours: $300 for 1-3 people - Max 3 people

Shallotte, NC (Brunswick County) - southeastern North Carolina near Holden Beach
As of February 2023: Deer season was good with plenty of nice bucks. Hog hunting was fair. Duck season was slow due to warm weather limiting northern migration. Trout fishing improving as water temperatures warm into spring.
