Full description and what we offer
Hatteras Hunters operates a guided waterfowl service out of the Outer Banks, where migratory ducks, geese, and sea birds winter across some of the most remote hunting ground on the eastern seaboard. The Pamlico Sound provides ideal conditions—and the outfit knows how to work it.
- •Pole Blinds are the traditional approach. Hatteras Hunters maintains blinds stretching from Hatteras to Frisco along the eastern shore of Pamlico Sound, positioned based on recent scouting trips. The blinds are large enough for your party plus a guide, with 360-degree views of the hunting area. Trained hunting dogs are welcome.
- •Sink Box Hunts are the signature experience. A sink box is a 4' by 4' aluminum blind that sits underwater with an adjustable curtain that raises and lowers with tide. Dare County is one of the last places on the East Coast where this unique hunting method is still legal. Two hunters can safely hunt from each box. Many travel significant distances just to experience a sink box hunt.
You leave the dock at 5am and reach the blind 45 minutes before shooting light. You'll watch the sunrise over the Pamlico Sound before the action starts. Departure location changes based on where the birds are currently moving.
The outfit uses Tanglefree decoys and continuously adjusts spreads to match migratory patterns. Shotguns are modern semi-automatics—Benelli, Beretta, and Browning—and shotgun rentals are available if you need one.
- •Federal Duck Stamp
- •Full North Carolina hunting license
- •100% waterproof jacket or coat
- •Chest waders (check for leaks before you arrive—they carry spares)
- •Waterfowl clothing, gloves, facemask
- •Non-toxic ammo (#2 through BB shot)

The weather that other hunters avoid—fog, wind, rough water—is exactly when waterfowl move and feed. That's when hunts produce.
