International Benchrest Shooters (IBS) isn't a range or a store—it's the organizational backbone of competitive benchrest shooting in North America. They sanction registered matches, maintain national rankings, publish official rulebooks, and connect competitors across the United States.
Benchrest is precision rifle competition at its most demanding. Shooters fire from a benchrest (a stable shooting platform), and accuracy is measured in fractional inches at distances of 100, 200, 300, 600, and 1,000 yards. The best shooters in the sport achieve groups measured in tenths of inches.
"Benchrest shooting is the pinnacle of accuracy and precision in shooting sports."
IBS sanctions three primary benchrest disciplines:
- •Group – Smallest aggregate group size wins
- •Score – Bull's-eye accuracy combined with shot placement
- •Long Range – 600-yard and 1,000-yard precision rifle shooting
Each discipline has specific rules, target formats, and scoring methods. IBS also administers rimfire benchrest competitions and factory class matches.
IBS maintains comprehensive databases:
- •Shooter Rankings – Tracked by discipline and distance
- •Precision Rifleman classification system
- •Shooter of the Year competition across all disciplines
- •National Records in Group, Score, and Long Range categories
- •National Champions recognized annually
