Understanding this shooting discipline
NRL22 is precision rifle competition using .22 LR rimfire rifles. It applies PRS (Precision Rifle Series) concepts - positional shooting, time pressure, varied targets - at a fraction of the cost. Matches use steel targets from 25 to 100+ yards.
Base Class restricts equipment to encourage skill development over spending. Open Class (NRL22X) allows any .22 LR rifle with no restrictions. The low ammunition cost makes regular practice affordable.

This is a .22 rimfire match at Larimer County 4-H Shooting Sports—straightforward competition that costs almost nothing to run and lets you dial in fundamentals without burning through expensive centerfire ammo. Rimfire matches are where a lot of shooters start competitive shooting because the format strips away distractions and focuses on trigger control and sight picture. You'll shoot air pistol or air rifle stages against the clock and other shooters. It's low-pressure enough to be fun, structured enough to matter. Good way to see if match shooting clicks for you before you commit to centerfire disciplines.
