Chagrin Valley Hunt Club

Founded in July 1909, the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club started as a gathering for Northeast Ohio's fox hunting and horseback riding enthusiasts meeting in the historic Maple Leaf Inn—an old stagecoach stop on the way to Cleveland. What began as a handful of members escaping the city bustle has evolved into a fully-developed private country club.

The Club's 15½-acre campus in the village of Gates Mills sits along the winding Chagrin River, approximately 25 miles east of downtown Cleveland. The grounds include:

• •Court and platform tennis courts
• •Newly-renovated outdoor swimming pool
• •Chagrin Valley Hunt Kennels (English foxhounds)
• •Chagrin Valley Stables (horse boarding and riding)
• •Guest cottages and administration offices

Fox Hunting — The Club maintains English foxhound kennels on-site. The Chagrin Valley Hunt accepts new members and participates in local parades and equestrian events.

Horse Facilities — Full boarding and riding programs operate through Chagrin Valley Stables.

Beagles — A newer addition to the Club's pack. Members use beagles for rabbit hunting on foot—a winter activity that combines exercise with socializing.

Tennis & Recreation — Court tennis, platform tennis, swimming, and fine dining facilities.

The Club weathered two World Wars, a devastating 1950s barn fire, and clubhouse fires in 1935 and 1994. After the 1994 fire completely destroyed the main building, the Club was rebuilt in the mid-1990s, incorporating modern design and safety standards while preserving its New England charm.

The Chagrin Valley Hunt Club is invitation-only. Current members may sponsor friends for membership, though all sponsored memberships require Board approval. Non-members interested in hosting events must have a member act as sponsor.
