Full description and what we offer
Horses & Hunting Dogs is run by Carol Gaver, a professional dog trainer and kennel owner who focuses on producing quality English Setters and Labradors for upland bird hunting. Every dog is bred and trained with real field work in mind—not just looks or pedigree.
Puppies and Started Dogs - English Setter puppies from proven hunting lines - Labrador puppies (including planned litters with strong retrieving bloodlines) - Started dogs ready for the field or further training - Specific breeding pairs: Classy/Jim, Ringer/Cougar, Gus/Mia crosses
Guided Hunts Carol runs guided hunts several times during the season for pheasant, quail, partridge, and chukar. This is how serious hunters experience what her dogs can actually do.
Training Services Gaver works with clients on foundational training issues, including: - Teaching and enforcing the "whoa" command correctly - Building reliable points and retrieves - Working dogs with distractions and in new environments
"To walk behind a nice bird dog, watch them hunt, point and retrieve the bird you just harvested gives you such a sense of accomplishment, and amazement at the talent of those animals." — Carol Gaver
Gaver doesn't just sell puppies—she's in the field constantly, training and testing her dogs on real birds. Her blog entries focus on practical training problems and real hunting experiences. Client testimonials consistently highlight: - Smart, eager dogs that figure things out fast - Strong natural pointing ability (puppies point birds before formal training) - Good temperament and personality outside the field - Beautiful conformation with good health clearances
14-day replacement policy for genetic defects verified by a veterinarian. 2-year extension on hip and elbow issues. Health records and pedigrees provided.
Gaver is upfront about the work involved. Training a bird dog and developing reliable field skills takes persistence and dedication. This isn't a place for casual buyers—it's for hunters who understand what they're getting into.
