Greenport Tactical Association (GTA) operates a year-round competitive shooting program at their facility on Steelrain LLC Range in Canton, Ohio. This isn't a casual range—it's a member-driven club that hosts organized matches, tactical training, and skill-building events from April through November.
GTA runs a rotating lineup of competitions:
- •Revolver Matches - Centerfire revolver competitions sanctioned under IDPA rules. Maximum 114 rounds across eight stages. Two classes: Production/Factory (iron sights, 5-6 round cylinders, speed loaders) and Open (red dots, moon clips, custom match guns). $10-$15 per gun. Mix of paper and steel targets at handgun distances, plus extended-range opportunities.
- •Steel Challenge Events - High-speed steel target matches featuring multiple stages with paper and steel combinations.
- •KYL Precision 22 Matches - Rimfire precision rifle competition, held most months on Saturday mornings at 9am. Pay and sign-in at the classroom before heading to the rifle range.
- •CDNEO Centerfire 2-Gun - Two-gun centerfire matches combining pistol and rifle stages.
- •Single Stack Competitions - Eight-stage pistol events featuring hostage scenarios, mozambique drills, card-shark targets, and plate racks. Roughly 85 rounds minimum. $15 entry.
Spectrum Car Class (Vehicle CQB) - Realistic tactical training covering vehicle entry/exit, room clearing in shoot house and vehicle scenarios, low-light weapon manipulation, and returning fire while moving. One-day intensive. $350 per person.
- •Rifle Nights - Informal centerfire rifle sessions run match-style with cold range protocols. One shooter at a time while others repair targets. Participants wear chemical glow sticks for visibility after dark. Typically 5pm until sunset, welcoming observers and shooters at all skill levels.
GTA runs specialty events throughout the year. The Independence Day Rimfire Blowout features 70+ steel targets ranging 25-250 yards with "tee time" squad scheduling—book a 2-hour window with your group, no waiting. $30 for the event. Previous years have included fun matches with high participation (89+ shooting runs recorded).
