3 Bridges Armory handles Federal Firearms License transfers for private firearm sales in York County and throughout southcentral Pennsylvania. Located at 5459 Austin Lane in Stewartstown, PA 17363, they process the paperwork that turns a private sale into a legal transfer.
When you buy a gun from a private seller in Pennsylvania, you can't just walk away with it. Handgun transfers between unrelated people require an FFL dealer to complete the process. Long guns and pre-1898 firearms can technically transfer privately, but 3 Bridges recommends going through an FFL anyway—you get written proof of sale and legal protection.
Here's how the process works at 3 Bridges:
1. Both parties show up in person with current photo ID (driver's license, etc.) containing name, address, and date of birth 2. Complete ATF Form 4473 (Firearms Transaction Record) at the shop—requires the dealer's FFL number and can't be done elsewhere 3. Pass a background check through the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS)—you don't need a permit to own a gun in PA, but the buyer must clear the background check 4. Take ownership immediately—Pennsylvania has no waiting period after approval, so the seller hands over the firearm same day 5. Receive a receipt proving you followed federal and state transfer law
No permit required in Pennsylvania for gun ownership, but the buyer must pass PICS background check before taking possession.
Allan Masters started 3 Bridges Armory out of his passion for competitive target shooting. The shop offers more than just transfer paperwork:
Allan Masters is a Penn State graduate who grew up in the Stewartstown area. After a 40+ year career in consumer packaging (working in Florida and New England), he returned to York County about 10 years ago. He joined the Hopewell Fish & Game Association, where he's served as Director, Trout chairperson, Hunter Safety Instructor, and committee leader.
At Hopewell, he discovered competitive target shooting through their groundhog shoots. That experience fueled his passion for precision shooting and inspired him to launch 3 Bridges Armory—creating a resource for shooters in southcentral PA to access knowledge, services, and personalized attention.
The Stewartstown Railroad historically crossed three bridges, all listed on the historic registry: - Valley Road bridge - Ridge Road bridge - Deer Creek bridge
Masters spent his childhood climbing, playing, and fishing under those bridges. 3 Bridges Armory's location sits close to all three, and the name honors that local history.
