Granpa's Gun Parts was founded in 1955 by Joseph John DeChristopher, who built the business collecting and restoring Springfield rifles while acquiring parts from Stokes Kirk and Bannerman's Island Arsenal. What started as a passion project grew into a recognized authority on U.S. military firearms and militaria.

Joe DeChristopher served with the Philadelphia Police Department from 1960 until 1968, eventually working on Mayor Tate's personal bodyguard detail. He left law enforcement to focus full-time on his military gun parts business, publishing his first mail order catalog—"United States Military Equipment and Firearms Parts"—in 1969. He updated these catalogs regularly through 1982 and was a fixture at Eastern Pennsylvania gun shows, particularly at the Forks of the Delaware Historical Arms Society's events at the Allentown Fairgrounds. Joe served as both Vice President and President of that historical arms club during the 1980s-1990s.

Joe passed away suddenly in 2015 at age 79, but his grandson David B. Stewart III carries on the business with the same commitment to authenticity and expertise. David trained formally as a filmmaker, photographer, and screenwriter but grew up in his grandfather's warehouse, learning the craft from someone who "had forgotten more than I will ever know."
