Hallstead Great Bend Rod and Gun Club operates two fully certified Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) trap fields in Hallstead, Pennsylvania. Both fields have been surveyed and certified by a Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Land Surveyor, meeting ATA specifications for target height, speed, and positioning.
Year-round trap shooting happens Wednesday nights from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm (last entries at 7:00 pm), rain, snow, or shine. The club throws singles, handicap, wobble, and doubles targets at $6.00 per round of 25 targets. Bring your own shotgun and shells—non-members are welcome. During fall and winter, you'll shoot under four 500-Watt LED stadium lights (70,000 lumens each) on the right field.
Youth shooters with parent supervision and beginners of all skill levels are welcome. Local high school trap teams regularly attend spring Wednesday sessions.
The club uses White Flyer Orange Top pitch targets thrown from new Pat Traps and Canterbury Voice Release Systems (both purchased in 2025). Wi-Fi cameras monitor trap houses for malfunctions and target supply.
Hallstead holds ATA Big 50 shoots almost every Wednesday night from March through October (except weeks of PA and NY State Shoots). These three-event competitions include: - 50 ATA Registered Singles Targets - 50 ATA Registered Handicap Targets - 25 pair of ATA Registered Doubles Targets
Regular 100-Target ATA Shoots run in March, April, September, and October with: - 100 ATA Registered Singles Targets - 100 ATA Registered Handicap Targets - 50 pair of ATA Registered Doubles Targets
The club threw 41,900 ATA Registered targets in 2025. ATA memberships cost $20 ($0 for first-time members with limited availability). Pre-squadding available at sosclays.com. Target settings use a Stalker Sport 2 Radar Gun, and SOS Clays manages scoring with a scrolling scoreboard.
USPSA matches: 3rd Sunday of every month, year-round. Steel Challenge matches: 1st Sunday of every month, year-round. Both welcome shooters of all skill levels and require pre-registration at practiscore.com. No club membership required to compete.
Pistol pits are restricted to pistol calibers only—all bullets must be fired directly into berms. Club membership required for practice use except during public matches.
The club maintains dedicated rifle ranges alongside trap and pistol facilities. Recent infrastructure improvements include pit construction completed in 2019, recovering from 2018 flood damage.
