Austin Young grew up hunting and fishing across the Southwest, carried that passion through his service as a U.S. Army medic (including deployment to Afghanistan), then discovered fly fishing in Colorado's Cache La Poudre River canyons. Now based in Charleston, he runs guided hunts and fishing charters while documenting the experience through videography and photography.

• •Hunting Trips — Duck, geese, and marsh hen hunts September through December. Marsh hen hunting plays like quail hunting from a skiff—birds fly low and slow for quality wing shooting. Duck season varies with weather, but Austin scouts locations to put the odds in your favor. He targets species like buffleheads, bluewings, mallards, redheads, and wood ducks. Private land dark hunts available (limited availability) with breakfast cooked in the blind.

• •Inshore Fly or Spin — Target redfish using 8wt fly rods or light tackle spin gear. Flies and artificials mimic shrimp, crabs, and small baitfish; live bait includes shrimp, crabs, and mud minnows. Full day trips include water and lunch.

• •Nearshore/Offshore Fishing — Depart from downtown Charleston, Mount Pleasant, or Isle of Palms. Fish reefs, wrecks, and open water 3-15 miles offshore for bull redfish, false albacore, cobia, and sharks. Family-friendly with hands-on instruction for beginners.

• •Fossil Hunting — Charleston's marshes and beaches hold megalodon teeth, great white sharks, extinct mako, dolphin bones, whale remains, and ancient mammoth fossils. Trips run 2.5-3 hours on the skiff.
