Cain Creek Outfitters grew out of Langbehn Land & Cattle—a working farm and Angus cattle operation that's been in the family for generations. Mike Langbehn didn't set out to be an outfitter. He just had good land, healthy bird populations, and friends who kept asking to hunt. That was 35 years ago. Today they manage thousands of acres across Beadle County and hold some of the best land leases in South Dakota. The operation has grown, but the fundamentals haven't changed: Mike still guides every hunt, and the birds are still wild.
Here's the dirty secret of South Dakota pheasant hunting: most lodges stock birds and call it "wild." Cain Creek doesn't play that game.
"We do not, have not, and will not ever release pen-raised birds."
Every rooster you flush here grew up in Beadle County—not a game farm. South Dakota's daily limit on wild pheasants is 3. If a lodge offers more than that, those aren't wild birds. Cain Creek follows the regulations because the birds are actually wild.
Hunters who've been disappointed by other "wild" hunts find them eventually. Once they hunt here, they don't go back.
The lodge started life as a 1938 South Dakota farmhouse—impressive enough to make the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. They've restored it from the studs out, keeping the character while adding everything you'd expect from a first-class hunting lodge.

Good pheasant habitat doesn't happen by accident. Cain Creek has spent decades working with CRP, rotating crops, and managing cover specifically for wildlife. The result: thousands of acres of prime hunting land on multiple private leases in one of South Dakota's most productive regions.
They're farmers first. The hunting operation exists because they built something worth hunting on.
Mike guides every hunt. You're not handed off to an employee.
