UGUIDE South Dakota Pheasant Hunting operates self-guided and unguided pheasant hunts across five private camps in South Dakota. Founded on the principle of fair-chase hunting with naturally-produced birds only—never pen-raised pheasants—UGUIDE has built a reputation for what they call "the ultimate pheasant hunting challenge."
| Camp | Location | County |
|---|---|---|
| Faulkton Pheasant Camp | Faulkton | Faulk |
| Gunner's Haven Pheasant Camp | Selby | Walworth |
| Meadow Creek Pheasant Camp | Meadow | Perkins |
| Pheasant Camp Lodge | Lake Andes | Charles Mix |
| West River Adventures Pheasant Camp | Timberlake | Dewey |
Each property manages its own habitat and has different capacity (minimum 6-10 hunters, maximum varies by camp). All emphasize naturally-produced birds and private, exclusive hunting.
The South Dakota pheasant season runs October 17, 2026 – January 31, 2027.
Volume Discount: Add hunters beyond the minimum of 6, up to 10. Each additional person gets $20/person discount (up to $80/person for groups of 10).
Once a camp minimum is met with full-price adults, add up to 2 youth (ages 12-15, free) and up to 2 juniors (ages 16-17, 50% off).
Add-Ons: - Extra lodging nights: $100/night per person - Non-hunter guests: $100/night per person (4-night minimum) - Some camps offer 3-day hunt options instead of 4
These hunts are explicitly not for everyone. UGUIDE requires:
1. Dog Handler Skills — You must know how to work your dog in the field 2. Dog Skills — Dogs need hunting experience; UGUIDE does not allow groups without skilled dogs 3. Shooting Skills — Wing shooting ability matters on wild birds 4. Hunting Strategy — Reading cover, weather, bird behavior 5. Teamwork — Your group working together effectively
"These hunts are a test of your shooting, dog and hunting skills. These are not released pheasants. These are some of the wariest pheasants you will find in North America."
UGUIDE properties are run by full-time producer farmers and ranchers. The operation emphasizes optimized pheasant habitat through food plots, conservation reserve management, and natural life-cycle production. The fall pheasant season coincides with harvest, so landowners have limited time with guests—which hunters accept as part of the self-guided model.
Book online or contact Chris (founder/owner) directly for personalized recommendations. Respond to inquiries within 24 hours. UGUIDE provides weekly harvest reports by camp during the season and maintains a pheasant outlook resource for season conditions.
UGUIDE operates on an Owner-Hunter-UGUIDE cooperative philosophy. The value is in habitat that naturally produces fair-chase pheasants—not retail lodging or full-service guiding. Hunters appreciate this self-sufficiency. The lodging exists to complete the experience, not define it.
