Gun Hill Ranch

Gun Hill Ranch sits just outside Uvalde, roughly 100 miles from San Antonio, with over 8,000 acres at the foothills of the Hill Country. The property has been under intensive wildlife management since 2005, and the terrain variety is what hunters notice first—plains, rocky cliffs, creek-fed oak groves, planted fields, and brush country all on the same ranch.

• •Whitetail Hunts — $2,850 for 4 days/3 nights, fully guided. Includes one buck 135" or less, does, and varmints (coyotes, bobcats, badgers, feral hogs). Upgrade pricing: $100/inch for 136"-159", $200/inch for 160" and up.

• •Rio Grande Turkey Hunts — $1,800 for 4 days/3 nights. Up to two gobblers plus varmints included. Additional turkeys available at extra cost.

• •Other Game — Axis deer, blackbuck, and javelina also available.

Lodging is in the main ranch house where meals are served. There's also a pool, entertainment house, and separate hunters' bunk house. Non-hunting companions welcome for $250/day.

Between morning and evening hunts, you can work around the ranch, take a buggy ride, shoot skeet, or drive into the Hill Country. The outfit handles trophy caping and transport to UPS, plus arranges meat processing at local facilities.

Fly into San Antonio, rent a car, and drive straight to the ranch. It's a straightforward shot from the city.
