Full description and what we offer
Hidden Lakes Hunting Resort opened in 2008 with one goal: deliver a quality hunting experience without the drive. Fourteen seasons later, owner Cord Burnett—who took over from his parents Billy and Kathryn—still runs the operation on that same principle. He grew up hunting the same lease where his family shot their first quail, and that bird-hunting foundation shapes everything the resort does.
The resort specializes in three upland birds:
You can also book European pheasant tower shoots (300-500 birds) and half-day sporting clays on their five-stand clay course. All hunts pair you with a knowledgeable guide, a brace of pointers, and a flushing retriever.
All-Inclusive Packages Run 1-5 Days — Includes lodging, meals, bird processing, and multiple hunts. A 2-day/2-night runs three hunts with all meals included.
The main facility is 15,500 square feet with specific sections for different guest needs:
| Space | Size | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Dining Room | 1,200 sq ft | Sit-down meals |
| Conference Room | 600 sq ft | Groups/events |
| Game Room | 1,200 sq ft | Pool, poker, full kitchen |
| Covered Patio | 900 sq ft | Outdoor gathering |
| Pavilion | 4,800 sq ft | Large events |
Guest Rooms: - 8 rooms with 2 queen beds - 7 rooms with 1 queen bed - DirectTV and WiFi throughout - Six 30-amp boat hookups for RV parking
Chef Cruz Minjarez runs the kitchen and handles all meals. Breakfasts are hearty and simple. Lunches feature smoked ribs, brisket, marinated chicken, and what regulars call "the best fried quail in East Texas." Dinners are multi-course affairs—think New Zealand red stag, Alaskan halibut, exotic preparations, and traditional East Texas fare.
Friday & Saturday dinners are open to the public (reservations required 24 hours ahead at 903.383.7100). You don't have to book a hunt to eat here.
Guide quality separates resorts. Hidden Lakes keeps Chris, Cade, Daniel, David, and Randy on staff—all skilled dog handlers who run pointers and retrievers. Customer reviews consistently mention the dog work being "second to none" and "like watching an orchestra out there."
Because availability is limited during hunting season, cancellations carry fees: - More than 60 days: No fee - 30-60 days: 35% per person - 10-30 days: 50% per person - Less than 10 days: 100% per person - No-shows charged full booking value
"I have been traveling here several weekends a month during hunting season for three years, and this place has become like a second home. The birds fly incredibly well and the dog work is second to none. Chef Cruz dinners are an experience. Multiple courses from exotic to down home, all prepared perfectly. Hidden Lakes has become where we take our most valuable customers." — David Carroum
The resort accommodates corporate events, private functions, and group gatherings year-round. The conference room, pavilion, and full kitchen setup handle non-hunting bookings.
