Location details and information
Rocky Mountain Airgun Challenge hosts one of the West's most competitive airgun shooting events every June at the Garth Killpack Shooting Range in Hobble Creek Canyon near Springville. RMAC draws 200+ shooters annually across four distinct competition formats, each testing different skills and equipment.
Shooters face one of Utah's toughest ranges—wind howling down Hobble Creek Canyon in the morning, switching back and forth mid-day. Three rounds total: two qualifying at 100 yards, one final. You get 30 minutes to shoot 25 targets with 25 shots.
Specs: - Pellet guns up to .35 caliber only - Mass production diabolo pellets (JSB Diabolo, H&N Barracuda approved) - Best edge scoring with .35 caliber plugs - 20 benches per heat, 7 Pro heats, 3 Sportsman heats - $50 scoring challenge fee (refunded if error found)
This is why RMAC was created. Ten stages with reactive steel targets, variable distances (25-250 yards), and realistic shooting positions. You'll move from prone to standing, kneeling behind barricades—the best all-around shooters come out on top.
Course Details: - .30 caliber and under - Both slugs and pellets allowed (2026+) - Bipod and shooting bag recommended - 10 points per hit, bonus points for perfect stages - Squad-based scoring model - Warning: Physically demanding. You must be able to move between positions safely.
The most energetic event at RMAC. 200+ shooters drawn into 10-12 person squads, competing head-to-head 1v1 across ten timed stages. Winner takes the stage points. Top two from each squad advance to seeded finals—best of three finale.
Requirements: - .30 caliber and under - Mass production domed pellets only - 2 magazines required (some stages mandate magazine changes) - Bipod and front shooting bag recommended - Head-to-head bracket format with single-elimination finals - Pro & Sportsman classes combined - Also physically demanding—moving between positions required.
For shooters with dedicated slug guns. Steel targets from 100-450 yards on mountainside angles showing just how powerful and accurate modern airguns are.
Requirements: - Minimum 140 ft/lbs energy at muzzle - Slug guns only - Your own rifle (no rifle sharing allowed) - One spotter permitted (wind and elevation only—cannot touch gun, scope, ammo, air systems) - 60 seconds per shooter per target distance - Come fully prepared: scope sighted, dope chart ready, tanks filled before June
"If you don't have a slug shooting airgun you should go buy one just to compete in this event."
Nearby Accommodations: - Hyatt Place Provo (180 W 100 N) - Provo Marriott (101 W 100 N) - Hampton Inn Spanish Fork (462 Commerce Way) - Camping: Jolley's Ranch and Cherry Campground in Hobble Creek Canyon - RVs: No on-site parking—carpool required
