Tuesday Night Steel is an all-steel shooting match at SUPS Range that borrows from USPSA format but runs its own way. Each match consists of 4 stages designed to test speed and accuracy under pressure, taking roughly 1 to 1.5 hours depending on field size. You'll fire approximately 80 required hits across the match, so bring 120 rounds to account for misses, reshoot opportunities, and post-match skill challenges.
Compete in Open, Limited, Limited Optics, Production, Carry Optics, Single Stack, Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC), 22LR Pistol, 22LR Rifle, or Shotgun. Each division has specific gear requirements outlined in the USPSA rulebook—magazine capacity limits, holster types, and firearm restrictions keep the competition fair and organized.
Allowed calibers include .22LR, .380, 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, 20 gauge, and 12 gauge. No steel core or slugs allowed.
Matches use time-based scoring with +3 second penalties for missed targets or procedural errors. Common procedural violations include foot faults (not being in the correct shooting box), engaging targets out of sequence, shooting wrong targets, or failure to engage required targets.
Stages involve standing, running, retreating, sitting, squatting, leaning, and prone positions.
You'll draw from a holster and reload from your belt. Each stage has unique design elements, so tactical thinking matters as much as marksmanship.
Arrive 15 minutes early for your first match. Safety briefing covers range protocols, then you'll shoot with a TNS Ambassador who walks you through the experience. Guns stay bagged until you reach the designated Safety Area in each bay—no handling except there or under RO supervision.
Bring your bagged firearm, eye protection, holster, and belt. Magazines can be handled anywhere on range grounds.
