Carr's Waterfowl operates guided hunts across Virginia and Kansas with a deep focus on positioning hunters where the birds actually are. The operation started with canvasbacks—and those waters still deliver—but the real strength is in diversity and seasonal strategy.
Potomac River Blinds - Private stationary blinds near Woodbridge, mostly around tidal areas and refuge impoundments - Early season: mallards, black ducks, pintails, gadwalls, ring necks, widgeon - Cold weather: canvasbacks, redheads, lesser scaup, greater scaup - Accommodates 5-6 shooters per blind - Bonus: Canada geese on most duck hunts
Inland Swamps & Ponds - Early season wood ducks, teal, resident mallards - Later season: migrating mallards and black ducks pour in - Well-off-the-beaten-path with user-friendly blind access - Limited to 4 hunters per blind for puddle duck hunts - Box blinds and permanently fixed A-frame blinds
Central Virginia Field Hunts - Farms in Orange, Fauquier, and Culpeper counties - Evening hunts with full moon backdrop over the piedmont - A-frames and layout blinds based on client mobility

Half Day Blind Hunt: $750 (3-hunter minimum for private hunts; additional hunters $250 each) Single Hunter Blind: $300 (paired with other singles, 3-4 per blind) - Hunts run 5am-11am or 1pm-sunset - $200 deposit required (non-refundable but transferable) - Balance due 2 weeks before hunt date - Single hunter bookings must be confirmed by December 1
You'll need: Virginia state hunting license, Virginia waterfowl stamp, federal duck stamp (sign it), and HIP number.
Ammo guidance: High-density loads (Boss Ammo or Heavy X) work best. Steel shot: No. 2 for ducks/BB for geese. Lead (where legal): No. 4-5 for ducks/No. 2 for geese.
Dogs welcome if well-behaved. Uncontrollable dogs will not be tolerated.
