Emerald Sound Outfitters guides hunters after 12 different sea duck species across the waters of western Washington. Veteran-owned and operated, the outfitter focuses on three things: safety first, ethical hunting practices, and delivering authentic Pacific Northwest waterfowl experiences.
Puget Sound holds remarkable variety in sea ducks. You can target:
- •Harlequin ducks (brightly patterned, distinctive)
- •Old Squaw (long-tailed divers)
- •Goldeneyes and Bufflehead (small, fast ducks)
- •Mergansers (diving specialists)
- •Greater Scaup (open water birds)
- •All three Scoter species (deep divers)
Each species has different behavior patterns in Puget Sound's rolling surf and sheltered inlets. The guides tailor hunts specifically to target what's moving that day.
Your hunt happens aboard one of two setups:

When you finish your hunt, you can buy a handmade decoy for each day booked—the actual decoys that brought your birds into range. Limited availability each season means only one species per client can be purchased annually.
