Full description and what we offer
Last Rooster Standing operates as an upland bird hunting preserve in Washtucna, Washington—75 miles northeast of the Tri-Cities and 90 miles southwest of Spokane. This isn't a "put-and-take" operation grinding through birds. It's about watching quality bird dogs work, and having a real time doing it.
"We are not the biggest. We are not the fastest. We might not even be the best (yet), but we know dogs, we know people and we know how to have a really good time."
The preserve's entire approach centers on bird dogs. Their dogs compete in the National Shoot to Retrieve Association (NSTRA) circuit and American Kennel Club/American Field trials. These are hard-charging dogs that will work 400-500 yards in front of you, find birds, and hold them. The preserve acknowledges that even great dogs make mistakes—if a dog bumps or blows birds, they make it right.
Pheasant Hunts: - Non-Guided: 10 roosters, up to 2 hunters + 2 youth (under 16) = $500 half-day. Additional roosters $40, hens $35 - Guided: 10 roosters, half-day = $600 (includes lunch). Full-day option with 10 roosters and 8 hens = $950 - Youth hunt at no additional charge
Chukar Hunts: - Non-Guided: 14 chukar, half-day = $550. Additional birds $30 each - Guided: 14 chukar, half-day = $650 (includes lunch). Full-day with 28 chukar = $1,050
Quail (Limited Availability): - All-day hunt for up to 4 hunters with 40 quail released as multiple coveys = $1,050 - Guided option available for additional $250 - Exclusive hunting area with ability to return to headquarters for breaks/lunch
Mixed Bag Options: Can customize combinations—for example, 5 roosters + 10 chukar for half-day = $625
The preserve doesn't try to compete on price. Roosters run $40-50 and hens $35-40, matching regional competitors. Instead, they focus on experience guarantees:
Huddle House at Hilltop Acres: - Historic ranch house on property—hunt out the back door - $250/night minimum (2-night minimum), up to 4 occupants - 5 people: $325/night | 6 people: $500/night - RV sites and meeting facilities available
Bird Dog Evaluation: Bring your dog for on-site evaluation. Pay only for birds used in the assessment.
Training Classes: Four-session bird hunting class over three months ($5,000 per couple, limited to 6 couples). Includes grouse hunting in Republic, WA, plus field experiences for quail, pheasant, chukar, and Hungarian partridge.
Punch Card Options: - 50 roosters package - 30 roosters + 30 hens package - Good for one calendar year, 10-bird minimum releases
Bird Dogs for Sale: Occasionally have pups available. Also network with started and trained dogs for sale.
Guides are hunters themselves. The emphasis is on letting quality dogs work naturally. First-time hunters should expect the guide to manage pace—there's never any running in the bird field, even when a dog is working 400+ yards out. This takes patience, but it's how you hunt birds properly.
