Indianhead Rifle & Pistol Club

Indianhead Rifle & Pistol Club started when a group of local Spooner-area sportsmen recognized a simple need: a safe place to shoot. After extensive planning and National Guard assistance, the range opened in summer 1986 with a 200-yard rifle range and separate pistol range. Nearly 40 years later, IRPC has evolved into one of northwest Wisconsin's most comprehensive shooting facilities.

The club operates eight distinct ranges across their leased property just east of US Highway 53/63:

• •.22 Range — Dedicated rimfire-only facility with shooting benches and metal gongs. 25-yard minimum distance.
• •100-Yard Rifle Range — 12 stations (8 covered, 4 open) with berms for 25, 50, and 75-yard sight-in. Metal gongs and variety of targets. Specifically designed for pre-hunt zeroing.
• •Large Pistol Range — For pistols larger than .22 caliber, equipped with benches and metal gongs.
• •Auxiliary Range — Backup rifle facility with 100/200/300-yard positions. Also features 400/500/600-yard stations for experienced marksmen (permission required).
• •Law Enforcement Range — Three-sided berms, exclusive to law enforcement training.

• •Trap & Skeet — May-October league shoots on Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m. IRPC supports Spooner and Shell Lake High School trap teams. Separate Practice Trap Range at the west end features two permanently mounted manual throwers. Target loads only—no hunting loads.

• •3D Archery Range — Walk-through course with 15 3D stations (10-60 yards). Nine targets wind through wooded sections; remaining targets spread across open field mimicking hunting terrain.
• •Archery Sight-in Range — Short-cut grass, new targets including crossbow-specific option, raised platform for tree stand practice.

Includes range use during open hours (8am-8pm, 7 days a week) plus up to four guests. Guests must be accompanied by a member at all times. Membership card must be carried and presented on request.

"Each year, our club members work together to develop new shoots and events... As a result of these discussions and member input, IRPC has added Conceal and Carry classes and Women's Shooting Clinic as regular events."

Range rules emphasize safety over convenience. Key policies: - Shoot down range into berms only—never across range - All targets at base of berm, no ground placement - 25-yard minimum distance from all targets on pistol/rimfire ranges - No 50 BMG, full-auto, or exploding/incendiary rounds - Shooting beyond 300 yards requires permission and experience - No alcohol on firing lines - Non-compliance results in expulsion and membership revocation

Members are expected to "police the range" and report violations to club officers or local law enforcement.

2.7 miles east of US Highway 53/63 at the northwest corner of Mann Road and County Highway A. (Note: Due to 2024 construction on Hwy 53, use County H near AAA Sporting Goods from the south, or Dilly Lake Road to Blooming Valley Road from the north.)

IRPC states: "We are continually moving forward to improve and upgrade our facilities." Recent additions include wheelchair-accessible shooting stations (added May 2018), upgraded 3D archery targets, and new practice trap equipment.
