Barbour Creek Shooting Academy

Barbour Creek Shooting Academy runs Level 1 long-range courses designed for shooters new to distance hunting—though experienced riflemen get plenty from the curriculum too. The course structure works: 50% classroom, 50% range time each day. Graduates typically feel confident shooting steel out to 1000 yards and hunting out to 800 yards.

• •All rifles and ammunition provided (suppressed class guns)
• •Private room and bath on-site
• •Breakfast, lunch, and dinner all days
• •Check-in at 4:00 PM the day before

You can bring your own rifle and ammo for after-class shooting on Day 2.

The Level 1 outline covers the real work of distance shooting:

• •Internal and external ballistics, air pressure effects
• •Scope selection, MOA, focal plane designs
• •Rifle components, barrel/chamber throat design, bullet stabilization
• •Trigger types, ammunition and powder selection
• •Bench technique, body position, breathing, trigger control
• •Wind reading, mirage basics, using a Kestrel wind meter
• •Ballistic programs and trajectory calculations (G1/G7 breakdowns)
• •Rangefinder operation and BC corrections
• •Terminal performance on animals and lethality ranges

Spotting scopes provided, but bring your own if you have one (Swarovski, Zeiss, Leica welcome)

Location: Near Eufaula, Alabama (45 minutes from Columbus, GA airport; 2.5 hours from Atlanta; 10 minutes from Weedon Field private airfield)
