Sam R. Murphy WMA Shooting Range

Sam R. Murphy WMA Shooting Range sits on private property owned by the Murphy Family and operated by the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries. It's located west of Guin, AL in Lamar County—roughly 1 mile down Western Front Road from County Road 16 (Henson Springs Road).

The range provides shooting distances up to 100 yards into a natural embankment. All shooting stations are concrete pads positioned to fire downrange into the bottom 5 feet of the embankment. One shooter per designated station at any given time.

Target options: - Stationary paper targets - Self-healing targets - Metal automatic reset targets - Moving clay targets (shotgun only, designated areas)

Any legal firearm and ammunition is permitted except armor-piercing or tracer rounds. This includes: - Rifles (all calibers) - Handguns (all calibers) - Shotguns (No. 4 shot or smaller for clay targets)

Keep firearms unloaded with muzzles downrange when not firing. Uncased guns must have actions open when not on the firing line.

Alabama residents (ages 16-64): Need a valid hunting, heritage, fishing, or WMA license

Alabama residents under 16 or 65+: No license required

Nonresidents: Valid WMA or non-resident hunting license required for all shooters age 16+
