Southern Sportsman Hunting Lodge operates across 6,000 acres in Lowndes and Dallas Counties, near Highway 80 between Montgomery and Selma. They've hosted serious hunters and outdoor authorities including Michael Waddell, Jackie Bushman, Barry Wensel, Ben Rogers Lee, and Bo Jackson—and regularly serve as a filming location for hunting videos.
Deer season runs November through January. Hunters shoot from 4x4 gun houses over soybean, corn, and green field food plots, or from ladder stands on trails, scrape lines, and ridges. Shooting distances typically range 20 to 300 yards.
Guided Gun Hunting - $375/day (November–December) - $525/day (January) - Includes meals, lodging, and guide
Bowhunting Options - Semi-Guided: $250/day (they direct you to active areas) - Self-Guided: $175/day (they show you property, you hunt solo) - Both include meals and lodging
A typical day starts before daylight with southern-style breakfast and hot coffee. You're picked up around 10:30 a.m. for lunch back at the lodge, then return to your stand at 2 p.m. and hunt until dark. Deer are processed and hung in a walk-in cooler. Dinner is served by 7 p.m.
Serious Trophy Management: First buck must be 6+ points. Second buck must be larger in rack size or the hunter pays a $200 fine. This program keeps the property quality high for repeat customers.
Eastern wild turkey season features hardwood swamps bordered by plantation pine and open fields—ideal habitat. Hunts include one-on-one guides for morning hunts, with optional afternoon guides available.

Guided preserve hunts run October 15–March 15. Each half-day hunt guarantees 12 quail. $300 per half day (does not include meals or lodging).
Thanksgiving weekend whitetail hunts: $750 for one adult and one child (15 years or under). Includes guide, meals, and lodging for 3 days. Hunters can take 1 doe or 1 buck (6+ points). Dads can shoot a second deer for an additional $375.
The lodge features comfortable accommodations and home-cooked southern-style food. Non-hunting guests can stay for $75/day (includes meals and lodging). Corporate conference room seats 100.
Check-in 1:00 p.m. (hunt that evening). Check-out 12:00 noon after final morning hunt. 50% deposit required within 2 weeks to confirm. Balance due on arrival. Cash, certified checks, and money orders accepted (personal checks for deposits only).
