Location details and information
Cahaba River WMA Shooting Range is a public range on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area near Helena, Alabama, run by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The rifle/pistol range offers shooting distances of 25, 50, and 100 yards from a concrete firing line into an earthen backstop, using paper, self-healing, or automatic-reset metal targets. A separate shotgun range for clay targets sits east of the rifle range; shotguns may also be brought to the rifle/pistol range for patterning only.
Shooters must check in with Range Officers before using the facility. A valid Alabama hunting, heritage, fishing, or WMA license is required of shooters in the specified age range, and those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Use is first-come, first-served; alcohol and commercial use by private entities are both prohibited.
Any legal firearm and ammunition may be fired except armor-piercing, tracer, incendiary, or explosive rounds. Shooting is limited to one shooter per designated station. On the clay range, shooters use No. 4 shot or smaller and register with the range officer first.
