Marshman Training & Consulting operates a purpose-built range in Elkmont focused on practical firearms instruction. Owner Ed Marshman spent three decades with the FBI—retired as Primary Firearms Instructor for both the Washington, DC and Portland, Oregon field offices—and brings law enforcement credibility most trainers simply don't have.
This isn't a public shooting range. MTC is appointment-only and built specifically for dynamic training scenarios.
The range allows you to practice tactical shooting—drawing from holster, reloading under pressure, shooting from cover, moving while engaging targets—rather than just standing still punching holes.
MTC classes run three hours, not eight. This matters. Shorter, focused sessions let you absorb material, practice skills, and retain what you learned without cognitive overload. Maximum class size is 5 students, so you get meaningful instructor attention.
Pricing: $100 per student (1-2 shooters) or $80 per student (3-5 shooters). Cash or check only.
| Course | Focus |
|---|---|
| Basic | Marksmanship, safety, weapon maintenance |
| Intermediate | Draw, reload, shooting from cover, malfunction drills, one-hand shooting |
| Advanced | Moving targets, moving shooter, speed/accuracy, scenario training |
| Concealed Carry | Legal considerations + practical tactics—mental prep, situational awareness, legal ramifications |
| Security Training | On-site assessments, team training, active shooter prep for businesses and facilities |
Ed was an attorney before the FBI. That legal background means his concealed carry instruction covers more than just "shoot the target faster." You get liability awareness, state-specific laws, and the mental framework behind self-defense decision-making.
He's a USPSA A-Class competitive shooter, former SWAT Team Leader, and Defensive Tactics Instructor. Safety is non-negotiable—it's genuinely built into how classes are structured, not just mentioned once.
Bring your own firearm, holster (for draw-intensive classes), minimum 100 rounds of ammunition, and eye/ear protection. All students must be legally qualified to possess firearms; minors need a parent or guardian present.
