Full description and what we offer
The Alaska Trappers Association advocates for trappers and keeps the trapping tradition alive through education, community, and legal support. They're based in Fairbanks but operate active chapters across Alaska's major population centers.
Education & Training - Snare making classes ($75) covering common Alaska furbearers - Fur handling workshops ($75) teaching skinning, drying, and presentation to fur buyers - Ethics and trapper education programs
Community & Advocacy - Monthly general membership meetings in Fairbanks (1st Tuesday, October–March) - Chapter meetings in Wasilla, Eagle River, and Kenai - Legal defense fund for members - Dean Wilson Scholarship program - Fabian Carey Trapper of the Year Award
Events & Market Access - Fur Rondy fur auction in Anchorage (February 28–March 1)—a seasonal staple since Alaska's fur trade dominated the economy - Seasonal sweepstakes and member shop
The Fur Rondy auction connects trappers directly to buyers and has been central to Alaska's fur industry since the festival began.
ATA isn't just a social club. They provide legal backing for trappers, fund education through scholarships, and maintain one of Alaska's oldest traditions with their annual fur auction. Members get access to hands-on classes that directly increase trapline profitability and professional connections across the state.
