Full description and what we offer
Ducks Unlimited is a national conservation organization with a strong presence in Alaska, focused on protecting waterfowl habitat and supporting hunting traditions across the state. With 3,818 members in Alaska, DU combines habitat conservation work with practical hunting resources and education.
DU operates on two fronts: conservation of Alaska's vast wetland systems and support for waterfowl hunters. Alaska's wetlands cover more than 50% of the state's surface area and produce a fall flight exceeding 4.6 million ducks and 100,000 geese annually—making it critical habitat for scaup, northern pintail, American wigeon, green-winged teal, mallard, and northern shoveler.
The organization has conserved 5,792 acres in Alaska and raised $624,501 in grassroots funding last year alone.
DU's Alaska initiatives address real threats: hydropower development, mineral extraction, climate change, and increasing human access to interior regions. Their work includes landcover mapping, waterbird ecology research, and partnerships with state agencies and Native Alaskan communities.
Join nearly 60,000 DU volunteers nationwide or become an Alaska member. Local chapters operate throughout the state—including recent revivals in Girdwood and active chapters in Bethel, Kodiak, and Anchorage. DU also offers Varsity (high school) and Ducks University (collegiate) volunteer programs.
