Location details and information
SnowShoe Gun Club operates five specialized ranges designed for specific disciplines. Members aren't crammed onto one multipurpose bay—each range is built for what you're actually shooting.
The clays facility has four established fields on the west side of the Training Building parking lot. Fields 1 and 2 are dedicated trap with Pat-Trap machines capable of throwing double clays. Field 2 adds a wobble function for varied presentations. Both incorporate voice-activated wireless systems for remote operation.
Fields 3 and 4 are combo setups with both skeet and trap houses. The skeet machines are GP Trap models provided by the NRA. In 2019, SGC installed a Promatic ClaysMate card system and completed concrete walkways. The club also purchased six Promatic mobile traps, allowing 5-stand or FITAS courses to be set up on any field. A 2021 grant funded two new Pat-Trap machines and wireless voice systems for fields 3 and 4.
Dedicated pistol shooting bays for handgun practice and qualification work.
Full-distance rifle shooting with appropriate safety zones.
Located north and west of pistol bay 10, the tactical range features a 300-yard bay for AR-15s and law enforcement training. A stepped 150-yard area sits on the west side. Monthly summer PRS22 matches are held here. Rifles and pistols can be used if required shooting distance is under 300 yards. Tannerite and glass targets are prohibited.
Dedicated facility for traditional firearms and muzzleloaders.
| Membership Type | Cost | Details |

| Family | $150/year | 1 membership card per family |
| Corporate | $350/year | Can be invoiced |

Memberships run January 1 through December 31 and are not prorated by purchase date. Payment is cash or check only—credit/debit cards not accepted.
Memberships are in-person only at the SGC Training Building. New members are required to attend an orientation (held Wednesdays year-round, plus 1st and 3rd Wednesdays April–October at 6:00 PM). All members must pass a safety quiz. Orientation happens one time for new members; renewals only need the quiz.
Members can bring guests, but you're responsible for their actions. Limit guests to what you can actively supervise (typically 1–2 people). Guests must review the SGC orientation video before shooting. Key sharing is prohibited—only immediate family members (those you claim on taxes) can use your key. Sharing your key results in membership revocation.
Cold Frontier Training and Tactics partners with SGC to offer exclusive classes for members. Instructors have backgrounds in law enforcement, military, and private sector security.
SGC also hosts programs through: - Alaska Department Fish and Game (hunter education) - AK State Protection Agency (state LEO training) - Municipal law enforcement - Federal protection agencies - Corporate training (bear protection, etc.) - Youth programs: Teens on Target and Women on Target
Competitive shoots are designed for members to track progress and compete with others. Public shoots let you invite friends and family to enjoy the facility together.
Range Safety Officers (RSOs) are SGC members who completed NRA-approved RSO training. When working, they'll wear ID and a hat or vest and announce they're controlling that range. Give RSOs full support—they're there to ensure everyone has a safe experience.
All ranges require checking the Range Status and Range Calendar before visiting to confirm availability and any scheduled events. Unless reserved, all ranges operate first-come, first-served.
SnowShoe Gun Club is member-governed with committees overseeing each range discipline. The Clays Committee (chairman Jim Trujillo, 907-252-0065) handles clay target operations. The Pistol Committee (chairman Steve Sheldon, 530-228-0261) oversees handgun range use. Rifle, Black Powder, and Education committees also manage their respective areas.
No clay targets are thrown without a Clays Committee member present for safety. Members can reserve ranges ahead of time through the reservation system.
