A3 Trophy Hunts operates on a simple principle: the outfitter that spends the most days in the field before the season wins. Matt Schimberg, Jay Lopeman, and Chad Rhoton have built a scouting program that outworks every competitor. They scout 25+ days per month from June through hunt season, learning elk rut patterns, locating giant bucks, and developing specific strategies for harvesting top-end animals.
The guides aren't weekend warriors. They're born-and-raised Arizona specialists who've hunted their units since childhood. They won't sub your hunt out, and they won't pressure you to kill average bucks. Their reference list spans decades—past clients consistently report no-nonsense effort from opening morning through the final day.
2019 Results: A3 clients harvested 54 elk averaging 360"+, including 23 bulls over 370" and an archery bull that placed in the world's top 5.
A3 specializes in premium Arizona mule deer. Their portfolio includes:
How they operate: You won't be back at camp at midday. Hunts run sunup to sundown across challenging terrain. The crew doesn't give up—recent hunts took until day 6 before success, but all three hunters killed bucks over 200".
A3 hunts Arizona statewide with guides who are experts in their specific units. Their scouting identifies top bulls each year before the season opens. In 2019 alone: - 54 bulls harvested - 23 bulls scored over 370" - Top 10 averaged over 408" - 2 general season bulls exceeded 430", including an archery bull in the world's top 5
A3 holds exclusive access to 65,000 acres across Units 9 and 10 (30,000+ acres per unit). This is the only private land hunt available in Unit 9. The ranch attracts massive public-ground elk during hunting pressure and serves as a historic rutting ground. Clients hunt mature, high-scoring bulls in zero-pressure conditions. Recent harvests include bulls up to 414" and multiple 380"+.
Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest permitted outfitter.
A3 Trophy Hunts has specialized in Coues forever. Their harvest record speaks plainly: - Nearly 100 bucks scoring 110"+ - Dozens scoring 130"+ - Multiple bucks in the 150-160"+ range - Annually harvests the largest Coues bucks in Arizona
They scout all top Coues units and have earned regular statewide tag bookings.
A3 offers hunts for both species across Arizona and New Mexico, with the same aggressive scouting methodology applied to each.
A3 handles big-game and draw hunt applications, helping clients access coveted western tags.
Dedicated scouting services for hunters preparing their own tag.

"I prefer to hunt on my own, but I did not have the time needed to scout the unit properly. Matt Schimberg with A3 Trophy Hunts stood out. They just kept with it and it paid off. All three hunters in camp killed bucks, all over 200" with the biggest scoring 239"." — Michael Ronning, Phoenix, AZ
"Matt and his guys work as hard as any outfit we've used. They spend more time in the field preparing for the seasons than anyone else I know... For me, hunting in North America or Mexico begins with a call to Matt and A3 Trophy Hunters." — Pat Cooley, Yuma, AZ
