Full description and what we offer
Diamondback Shooting Sports Training Center in Tucson operates with a straightforward philosophy: pressure-test everything, ditch the ego, and teach what actually works locally—not just what worked in a warzone.
Owner and lead instructor Ben Anderson is a US Army 82nd Airborne veteran (Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2008-2009) with thousands of hours training military, law enforcement, and civilians across multiple weapon platforms. Michael Maurer, Director of Training, brings competitive shooting credentials—he's a Master class Carry Optics shooter in IDPA and trains regularly under national-level instructors like Gabe White and Scott Jedlinski.
- •Handgun courses: Intro to advanced levels, plus Ladies Only Intro to Handguns
- •Rifle/Carbine: Semi-automatic rifle training from intro through Level 3
- •Long-range rifle instruction
- •Arizona Concealed Weapons Permit classes (next course: 1/27-1/28/2026)
- •Everyday Carry courses (Level 2+)
- •Specialty training: Night shoots, shotgun, security guard courses
All instructors are certified—Anderson holds NRA pistol/rifle/shotgun certifications, Arizona DPS armed and unarmed guard instructor credentials, TCCC certification, and more. Maurer is NRA-certified across three platforms and TCCC-certified.
Training happens two ways: classroom instruction at the store location in Tucson, or hands-on shooting on their private outdoor range (15 minutes from the store). Courses are cost-effective, hands-on, and built for all skill levels—whether you're picking up a gun for the first time or training as a professional.
"It is imperative to always be a student first, and instructor second. Simply put, shooting is shooting, and being cool is not that cool." — Ben Anderson, Owner
