Carmel Gun Club

Carmel Gun Club is a competition-oriented club in Monterey County that conducts sanctioned rifle and pistol matches throughout the year, typically on the fourth Saturday of each month. They focus on discipline and marksmanship across multiple shooting sports platforms.

• •Rimfire Sporter - .22LR rifles fired from standing, sitting, and kneeling positions at 25 and 50 yards.

• •CMP High Power - AR-based or match-prepared rifles at 200, 300, and 600 yards (600yd simulated due to range restrictions). Competitors shoot slow and rapid fire strings from standing, sitting, and prone.

• •Swiss Rifle Matches - Shooters use Swiss ordnance rifles like K31s or K1911s at 300 meters from prone position. The club maintains six K31s available to members at no charge. Competitors can earn medals issued by the Swiss shooting sports association.

• •CMP As-Issued Service Rifle - WWII and earlier military rifles like the 1903 Springfield or M1 Garand at 200 yards. A newer category allows M1As and ARs in as-issued configuration.

• •Pistol Matches - CMP and Swiss-sanctioned events throughout the year using .22LR pistols or military/police calibers (9mm, .45). Fired one or two-handed at 25 and 50 yards.

The May pistol matches honor Captain Gordon Nakagawa, USN, who founded the NPS Marksmanship Team and mentored many club members.

The club rents range facilities from the Monterey County Swiss Rifle Club (MCSRC) and does not own or operate its own range. Members don't have access to MCSRC facilities outside of scheduled matches.
