Full description and what we offer
Lock n Load Concealed Carry Training holds classes at the Holiday Inn Express in El Dorado Hills and serves El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Yolo counties. Both instructors are California Department of Justice certified, and the operation is approved by all five county sheriff's departments.
California law requires 16 hours of training for initial CCW permits and 8 hours for renewals (every 2 years). Lock n Load's courses meet these requirements and satisfy all sheriff department standards.
| Class Type | Hours | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial CCW (2-day) | 16 | $275 | $20 range fee, qualify with up to 3 handguns |
| Renewal CCW (1-day) | 8 | $195 | $20 range fee, qualify with up to 3 handguns |
El Dorado residents can qualify with up to five handguns ($15 per firearm after the first three).
A California CCW is statewide—you can carry legally throughout California (except restricted areas) once issued by your county.
Don't need a California permit first? Lock n Load also teaches the Utah 32-36 non-resident CCW permit, which is honored in 32 states including Nevada (but not California). This 4-hour classroom-only course meets quarterly on Saturday evenings and costs $175. The permit is valid for 5 years.
Beyond CCW requirements, Lock n Load offers three levels of defensive shooting instruction:
Dr. David Lungren — Lead instructor and founder. Certified by California DOJ, Utah BCI, NRA (pistol and personal protection), and as a Range Safety Officer. Approved CCW instructor for El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Yolo county sheriffs. Six years military service. Before retiring, directed a Whiplash and Spinal Trauma Center—experience teaching complex subjects informs his teaching style. His father (Sacramento PD) and grandmother both survived violent attacks; this personal history drives his commitment to proper training.
Justin Lungren — 11 years as a CCW instructor. California DOJ and Utah CCW certified, NRA certified instructor/range safety officer, US Army combat veteran. Deployed to Iraq twice (2003-2004 and 2007-2008). Previously worked 13 years with federal, state, and local law enforcement on critical infrastructure and physical security.
2024 Law Changes: Effective January 1, all initial CCW training must be 16 hours minimum, all renewal courses must be 8 hours minimum. Spouses can no longer share firearms on one permit—each must register their own with Cal DoJ.
