Full description and what we offer

Self Defense for the People teaches practical urban safety to people of all fitness levels and experience. The instructors believe de-escalation and verbal self defense matter just as much as physical techniques—and they build classes around that philosophy.

Classes focus on real-world scenarios: riding BART, waiting at bus stops, accessing your car at night, or leaving work late. You'll learn defensive footwork, defense against punches and grabs, chokes, and how to use everyday items as tools for self defense.

  • Women's Classes address situations unique to women: cat calling, sexual assault scenarios, hair pulls, purse snatching, and unwanted physical contact.
  • General Self Defense covers everyday urban situations regardless of gender.
  • Workplace Programs are customized for specific industries. Retail workers learn how to handle belligerent customers and robberies. First responders get training for altered or delirious patients. Hospitality staff learn to remove rowdy guests safely. Any business can get training tailored to their environment and daily vulnerabilities.
  • Active Shooter Disengagement ("Breaking Contact") is taught by safety consultants with first-hand law enforcement and emergency medical services experience. The program covers recognizing an active shooter event, firearm familiarity, ballistic concepts, and basic physical defense techniques against firearms.

Instructors keep things simple and adaptable. No prior self defense experience required. Classes happen in the studio or at your workplace—you set your own schedule for private sessions.

"This was the first time taking any self-defense class. We learned different forms of self-defense, from how we carry ourselves to being more aware of our surroundings. The instructor was respectful and kept us engaged throughout the whole class." – Cameron House, San Francisco
