Action Pistol Group operates shooting sports matches and firearm instruction programs at the Cameo Shooting & Education Complex, located 15 minutes east of Grand Junction on I-70 (Exit 45) near Palisade, Colorado.
APG runs regular local matches including:
- •IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association)
- •USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association)
- •SCSA (Steel Challenge Shooting Association)
- •PCSL (Practical Carbine Shooting League)
- •NRA F-Class (Long-range rifle competition)
- •Support-A-Soldier charity matches
The flagship event is the Cameo Classic Steel Challenge, held annually in August. The 2026 match runs August 22 at the CSEC facility and features all 8 standard SCSA stages with a 195-round count (bring 250 for re-shoots). Registration opens March 1 and closes August 15. The competitor fee includes an awards cookout at 4:00 PM with trophy presentations and random prize drawings.
No SCSA or USPSA membership required to compete. Competitors can enter up to 2 divisions per shooter.

15 minutes east of Grand Junction Airport (GJT) on I-70, Exit 45
Hotel: Quality Inn (733 Horizon Dr, Grand Junction) offers a special Cameo Classic rate of $125/night with breakfast included. Located 5 minutes from airport, 15 minutes from range.
Camping: James M. Robb – Colorado River State Park (Island Acres) has tent sites ($18/night) and full RV hookups ($28/night). Limited dry-camp RV sites available at the range—call (970) 464-1339 to reserve.
Ammunition: CSEC sells most calibers at reasonable prices including Federal Syntech. Pre-purchase by phone: (970) 464-1339. Competitors can also ship ammunition via UPS or FedEx to the range address.
Shooters using magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds must check in at the CSEC office before the match. Refunds for match registration are granted in full minus administrative costs through July 24; no refunds after that date.
