Full description and what we offer
The X Count started in 2013 when Diane and Gregg Rice needed a place for their sons to practice rifle. What began with athletes shooting in a borrowed barn has become one of Indiana's premier Olympic-style shooting facilities.
"We spent all of Wednesday night cleaning. We power washed the place top to bottom and by Friday morning the team was starting to move equipment in. We had our first air rifle practice that next Tuesday, just six days after we got the keys." — Daniel Shanbrook, X Count Coach
After moving through temporary spaces, the Rices acquired their current building in November 2015. The community rallied immediately—the coaching staff cleaned and prepped the facility in just six days before the first practice.
Competition & Events - 20 shooting lanes configured for 10m air rifle/pistol or 50-foot smallbore - Host NCAA rifle matches and Collegiate Club National Championships - 2024 NCAA Patriot Rifle Conference Championship host - Pardini Grand Prix and other national competitions - Paralympic events and international talent competitions
Training & Education - NRA Coaching Courses - Range Officer Certification courses - Boy Scout and American Heritage Girls merit badge programs - Youth camps and clinics - Hunter education and gun safety courses (planned expansion)
The X Count earned USA Shooting Certified Training Center status in 2018—a rigorous certification proving exceptional commitment to Olympic/Paralympic shooting, excellent facilities, and qualified coaching. The facility has produced competitive athletes, including Alivia Perkins, who competed for Team USA at the 2023 ISSF Junior World Championship in Korea.
Coaching Staff: Head Coach Gregg Rice with Assistant Coaches Daniel Shanbrook and Molly Fink.
Looking Ahead: The nonprofit is planning a new building with more lanes, 50-meter smallbore capability, full pistol event accommodation, and expanded safety programs.
Community Partners: The Potterfield Group, MidWayUSA Foundation, and Friends of the NRA Foundation have supported The X Count's growth since day one.
