Davis Training, run by Doug Davis, is the go-to firearms instruction resource for Colorado Springs and El Paso County. Davis is a verified instructor under Colorado's new HB24-1174 law and conducts courses across multiple disciplines—handguns, rifles, shotguns, carbines, and ammunition reloading.
Classes scheduled on-demand means you work around your calendar, not a fixed schedule. Most courses are offered both as private sessions and group classes, with group discounts available.
Davis teaches at multiple locations: classroom instruction in Colorado Springs, live-fire range work typically at DCF Guns indoors, and matches/youth events held at the Cheyenne Mountain Shooting Complex.
Introduction to Concealed Carry Course — $230/person ($200 each for 2+) - 8-hour course meeting HB24-1174 requirements for the new Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit - Eye and hearing protection provided if needed - Loaner handguns available - Covers: firearm safety and handling, ammunition knowledge, shooting fundamentals, federal/state firearms law, extreme risk protection orders, storage requirements, deadly force law, law enforcement interaction techniques, and conflict avoidance - Live-fire requirement: Minimum 50 shots with 70% accuracy score - Written exam requirement: 80% minimum on competency exam - $100 deposit required (via credit card through Square); deposit refunded at course completion

Cheyenne Mountain Shooting Complex Youth Shoot - When: April-September, first Saturday of each month - Time: 0900 start (check in at office before start) - Fee: $15 per youth - Rifle: .22 LR caliber, rimfire, from benchrest position (single-shot, bolt, or semi-auto actions accepted) - Targets: Paper at 21, 50, 75, and 150 feet (distance based on age and sighting system) - What's provided: Ammunition and targets - Coach requirement: Each youth must have an adult coach; instructors available to assist if coach is unfamiliar with rifle shooting - Loaner rifles: Available if youth doesn't own a .22 - Drawing: Raffle held at end of event for a .22 caliber rifle - Registration: Call Cheyenne Mountain Shooting Complex at 719-896-6196
