Great Western Hunting Camps

Great Western Hunting Camps operates guided big game hunts across roughly 100,000 acres of private leases in southeast Colorado near the New Mexico border and near Montrose. They keep camps small—only 4-6 hunters at a time—which means you hunt alone, not shoulder-to-shoulder with other groups.

• •Elk - Two options. The 5-day archery hunt ($7,000-$8,000) runs during September rut with bugling bulls. The 5-day rifle hunt ($7,500-$8,500) happens in October when bulls are still vocal. Both use spot-and-stalk and bugling methods across mountain property, foothills, and plains.

• •Mule Deer - 5-day hunts ($5,500-$6,000) in October-November. Colorado's mule deer country with oak brush, cedars, and mesa tops. Second season (Oct 25-Nov 2) catches summer range; third season (Nov 8-16) hits the rut.

• •Antelope - 3-day rifle hunt ($3,500-$3,750) in October or 3-day archery hunt ($3,000-$3,500) August-September. Southeast Colorado's antelope population produces Boone and Crockett and Pope and Young trophies regularly. Over-the-counter archery licenses; rifle requires draw tag (they have vouchers if you don't draw).

• •Whitetail Deer - 5-day December hunt ($4,000) during peak rut. Limited to 4 hunters per year. Over-the-counter license, no draw required.

All hunts include full guiding, meals, lodging, and game field preparation. Licenses and gratuities are separate.
