Story Creek Outfitters

Story Creek Outfitters operates on the Menegatti Ranch, originally founded as Capps Ranch in 1878. The 40,000-acre property in southern Colorado's Spanish Peaks region has been continuously worked as a cattle ranch and hunting operation for nearly 150 years.

"We're about two things: cattle ranching and hunting. That's enough, and we like it that way."

Frank and Sue Menegatti took over operations in 1980 and have built the outfitting business into a serious big game destination while maintaining the ranch's conservation mission. The property earned the Leopold Conservation Award in 2003 for achieving a 50% increase in wildlife population through active land management.

Guided hunts come in two formats:

• •Fully-guided hunts - One guide per two hunters during fall season; one guide per hunter for turkey, lion, bear, muzzleloader, and archery hunts
• •Semi-guided hunts - More independence with guide support

Hunt types available:

• •Elk hunting in GMU Unit 85 (5×5 bulls or better)
• •Antelope in GMU Unit 133 (where Colorado's #1 and #2 archery antelope were taken)
• •Mule deer
• •Black bear
• •Mountain lion
• •Turkey
• •Youth hunting programs from turkey to big game

All hunts include accommodations at ranch headquarters, all meals, 4×4 and ATV transportation, and professional guides with extensive local knowledge. They handle all skinning and caping, with game processing available on request.
