• •Basic Pistol (6 hours, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.)

This course fulfills Connecticut's pistol permit requirement. The day covers: - Gun safety rules for storage and use - Revolver and semi-automatic operation - Ammunition knowledge - Pistol selection and activities - Live fire with multiple handguns under direct supervision - Written exam (multiple choice, true/false)

No live ammunition in the classroom—safety violations get warnings, repeated infractions mean failing the course. All firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and training materials are included. Students must be at least 21 with a clean background and pre-register. The facility supplies the "Basic Pistol Shooting" handbook; students read it before class.

• •Basic Rifle (14+ hours)

Covers safe rifle use for target shooting. Classroom and range time teaches: - NRA safe gun handling rules - Rifle parts and operation - Ammunition fundamentals - Shooting from bench rest, prone, sitting, standing, and kneeling - Cleaning and continued skill development

• •Basic Shotgun (10+ hours)

Focuses on safe shotgun use for moving targets. Training includes: - NRA safety rules - Shotgun parts, operation, and shells - Malfunctions - Shooting at straightaway and angled targets - Cleaning and skill building

• •Home Firearm Safety Course (4 hours, classroom only)

Non-shooting course covering: - NRA's three rules for safe gun handling - Causes of firearms accidents - Firearm parts and how to unload them - Ammunition components - Safe storage in the home

• •NRA Range Safety Officer Course (9 hours)

Develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers. Content: - RSO roles and responsibilities - Range Standard Operating Procedures - Range inspection and rules - Emergency procedures - Firearm stoppages and malfunctions

• •Beyond the Basics (Advanced Courses)

Custom-designed courses covering: - Use of cover and concealment - Shooting while moving - Flashlight use while shooting - Home and vehicle defense - Tactics from military and law enforcement - Competitive shooting drills (speed draws, target acquisition) - Stress-performance evaluation

Eligibility: Active law enforcement, military, private security, NRA instructors, Glock stocking dealers/range employees, or current GSSF members only.
