The Connecticut State Rifle & Revolver Association was founded in 1927 to develop shooting sports athletes and promote firearms education across Connecticut. Today, CSRRA operates as the Official NRA State Association and a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, with CMP affiliation that gives members access to civilian marksmanship programs.
This isn't a gun store or range—CSRRA is a membership organization that runs competitive shooting programs statewide:
- •Pistol Division: Indoor and outdoor state championships, NRA sectionals, air pistol leagues, and rapid-fire competitions
- •Smallbore Division: Developing competitive smallbore shooters
- •Highpower Division: Long-range precision rifle competitions
- •Junior Program: Development and training for shooters under 18

- •Why join: Members get CMP firearms and ammunition purchasing access, quarterly newsletters with CT gun law updates, invitation to annual meetings with Hall of Fame inductions, and eligibility to represent Connecticut in regional and national competitions.
- •Indoor Pistol runs February state championships with multiple courses of fire (slow fire, timed fire, rapid fire, NRA short course). Entry limits are 10-12 shooters per relay at venues like Metropolitan Shooters Club.
- •Air Pistol (International/ISSF) follows Olympic rules with postal leagues running October-March. The Air Pistol State Championship happens in January.
- •Outdoor Pistol features the Al D. Waters Sr. Memorial and Southern New England Regional Championship.

To represent Connecticut at national competitions, you must: 1. Be top 6 shooter in one of three disciplines (22, CF, 45) based on national match score 2. Be a CSRRA member 3. Have attended a State 2700 match
Competitors are classified from Marksman through High Master based on minimum 360 shots fired. Classification determines team placement and competitive division.
CSRRA provides members with updates on CT firearms regulations. Recent changes members should know about:
- •Pistol Permit Requirements: NRA training classes (with amendment) now accepted for permit applications as of July 1, 2024
- •Private Sales Ban: All firearm sales must go through licensed dealers as of January 2024
- •Open Carry Prohibition: Effective October 1, 2023—all concealed carry only
- •AR-15 Regulations: Pre-1994 ARs can be owned if registered; newer designs are banned
- •Handgun Limits: Maximum three handguns per month
- •Safe Storage Requirements: Now mandatory for all persons (not just minors)
- •Age for Semi-Auto: Minimum age raised from 18 to 21
- •Ghost Gun Kits: Online sales of untraceable firearm kits banned
- •Note: Pistol permit renewals can take 2+ months. The state grants a 90-day grace period from expiration before permits become non-renewable.
CSRRA hosts an annual meeting where all members gather to celebrate the shooting year. The organization recognizes outstanding contributions by inducting members into the Connecticut State Rifle & Revolver Association Hall of Fame. Recent events include the 93rd Anniversary Gallery Match and CT Junior Olympics.
CSRRA's logo features Connecticut's state tree, the Charter Oak. The tree became iconic in 1687 when it supposedly hid Connecticut's royal charter during a confrontation with English colonial authority—symbolizing freedom and resistance to tyranny. The original tree stood over 300 years before falling in 1856.
