Calusa Security

Weaponshakx, the training division of Calusa Security, specializes in getting armed security officers and private investigators licensed and qualified in Florida. If you need to work armed security or investigations in the state, you need their 28-hour Class G statewide firearms course—it's a legal requirement.

The course runs through Florida's complete mandate for armed licensing:

• •Gun laws and Florida Statutes (493, 775, 776, 790)
• •Use of force and legal issues
• •Gun safety and firearms mechanics (semi-auto and revolver)
• •Marksmanship fundamentals and drawing from the holster
• •Weapons handling, retention, and malfunction clearing
• •Live fire qualification: 148 rounds on the state qualification
• •Shooting from barricade positions and multiple platforms (standing, kneeling, prone)

Pass the final exam and range qualification at the 80th percentile, you get certificates for both your Class G statewide firearms license and CCW permit to submit with your state application.

Florida requires annual qualification to keep your G license active (though renewal is bi-annual). Miss the annual 4-hour recertification and you lose renewal eligibility—you'd have to redo the full 28-hour course. They handle the recert to keep you current.

• •Firearm Options: 9mm, .40 cal, .45 ACP semi-automatics or .38/.357 revolvers of police quality. They offer $10 firearm rentals if you don't bring your own.

• •What's Included: Course materials, fingerprinting, and targets. You bring 150 rounds for state qualification. They can supply duty belts, magazine pouches, ear/eye protection, and ammunition if needed.

• •Prerequisites: You must already hold a Florida Security Officer D license, Investigator Intern CC license, or Investigator C license before taking the G course. Age requirements: 18+ for armed security work, 21+ to carry concealed.

• •Dress Code: Long pants with belt (jeans or duty pants), crew neck shirt or polo, closed-toe shoes only. If you wear glasses or contacts, bring them.

Walk-ins welcome to scheduled courses. Doors close 15 minutes after start time, so show up on time.
